Four Saturdays: 28 Nov · 5 Dec · 12 Dec · 19 Dec

A structured year-end Science programme designed to help students strengthen their foundations, close learning gaps and prepare for the demands of the next level.

All four levels run in parallel on the same four Saturdays.

ENTERING P3

Start Science Strong

Primary 3 is where students begin formal Science learning, so the goal is not to rush ahead into memorising content. Instead, this programme builds the thinking and language skills students need to approach Science confidently from the start.

  • build essential Science vocabulary
  • observe objects, events and changes carefully
  • describe observations clearly and accurately
  • compare and classify using appropriate properties
  • recognise simple cause-and-effect relationships
  • distinguish between what they observe and what they infer
  • answer basic Science questions using complete explanations
  • become familiar with common Science question formats

The programme also introduces students to the idea that Science is not just about knowing facts — it is about explaining what happened, why it happened and what evidence supports the answer.

Ideal for students entering P3 who want a confident and structured introduction to Primary Science.

P3 → P4

Build Stronger Foundations

As students move into P4, they are expected to do more than recall facts. Questions increasingly require them to explain observations, apply concepts and communicate their reasoning clearly. This programme helps students consolidate what they have learnt in P3 while developing stronger answering skills for P4.

  • reinforce important P3 Science concepts
  • identify and correct common misconceptions
  • use scientific vocabulary more accurately
  • explain cause-and-effect relationships clearly
  • interpret simple diagrams and experimental situations
  • identify what a question is asking
  • give more complete answers to open-ended questions
  • avoid vague, incomplete or irrelevant responses
A strong focus is placed on helping students move from ‘I know the answer’ to ‘I can explain why the answer is correct.’

Ideal for students who understand basic Science concepts but struggle to express their reasoning clearly or score consistently in open-ended questions.

P4 → P5

Ready for Upper Block

The move into P5 is an important transition. Students begin working with more demanding concepts and are increasingly expected to connect knowledge across topics rather than treat each topic in isolation. This programme focuses on strengthening Lower Block foundations before students move into the more demanding Upper Block years.

  • consolidate key P3 and P4 concepts
  • identify weak foundations before P5 begins
  • connect related concepts across different topics
  • apply scientific ideas to unfamiliar situations
  • analyse diagrams, experimental set-ups and observations
  • identify the concept being tested in a question
  • explain changes using clear cause-and-effect reasoning
  • answer open-ended questions with greater precision
  • distinguish between memorised phrases and genuine application
Identify the concept
Find the evidence
Apply the concept
Explain the outcome

Ideal for students moving into P5 who want to strengthen their foundations before Upper Block Science becomes more demanding.

P5 → P6

Build Towards PSLE

The move into P6 is no longer just about preparing for another school year. Students are now preparing for their final Primary Science examinations and ultimately the PSLE. This programme helps students consolidate what they have learnt, identify gaps early and strengthen the answering skills required for more challenging application questions.

  • review and strengthen important P3–P5 concepts
  • identify and close existing knowledge gaps
  • connect concepts across multiple topics
  • tackle questions that combine more than one scientific idea
  • analyse experiments, diagrams, graphs and tables
  • apply familiar concepts to unfamiliar situations
  • identify the evidence needed to support an answer
  • improve the precision of scientific keywords
  • structure open-ended answers more effectively
  • avoid common mistakes that cost marks
  • begin developing stronger PSLE-style answering habits

The focus is not simply on doing harder questions. Students learn how to break difficult questions down and identify:

  • What do I know?
  • What is changing?
  • Which concept explains it?
  • What evidence should I use?
  • How do I phrase the answer for marks?

Ideal for students moving into P6 who want to close gaps early and build a stronger foundation for PSLE Science preparation.

The Apply to Score Approach

Across all four bridging classes, students are taught to move through four key stages:

1UNDERSTAND

Build accurate scientific concepts and correct misconceptions.

2APPLY

Recognise when and how to use a concept in different situations.

3EXPLAIN

Connect observations, evidence and scientific reasoning clearly.

4SCORE

Communicate answers accurately and directly to the question.

The aim is to help students become less dependent on memorised model answers and more confident in applying what they know.

Start with a diagnostic

Before the programme begins, students complete a short diagnostic to identify:

  • concept gaps
  • common misconceptions
  • weak question types
  • keyword issues
  • open-ended answering difficulties

This helps us focus revision where it is actually needed.

Programme includes

  • structured bridging lessons
  • AfterClass Science materials
  • concept revision
  • application questions
  • open-ended answering practice
  • guided corrections
  • misconception checks
  • take-home practice
  • progress monitoring
  • parent updates through Pulse by AfterClass
